Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

​We are the rapidly growing Azure PostgreSQL Database Services team at Microsoft and we are seeking a talented Principal Software Engineer to lead our efforts in enhancing the application development experience on our managed PostgreSQL database service while championing developer advocacy and community building initiatives. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving the strategy and execution of building best in class application development experiences and integrating our service with the tools and platforms that developers rely on daily. You will also lead efforts to build and nurture a vibrant developer community, advocating for their needs and amplifying their voices within our organization.

Responsibilities

  • ​​Lead the strategy and execution of building best in class developer experiences including integrating our managed PostgreSQL DBaaS with popular developer tools and platforms, ensuring seamless integration, optimized workflows, and enhanced developer productivity.

  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and customer success teams to understand customer needs and market trends, translating them into actionable integration requirements.

  • Architect scalable and extensible solutions that streamline the development lifecycle, improve user experience, and foster developer engagement.

  • Design and implement robust APIs, SDKs, and documentation to facilitate easy integration with our platform, fostering adoption and growth.

  • Champion developer advocacy initiatives, representing the developer community within our organization, and advocating for their needs and priorities.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with developer communities, influencers, and industry partners to amplify our brand and drive engagement.​

Qualifications

Required /Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Solid computer science fundamentals, fluent in multi-threaded and asynchronous programming, passionate about architecting at scale.

  • Full stack development experience with production grade services.

  • Solve problems by always leading with deep passion and empathy for customers.

  • Have a deep desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
